PENAMPANG: The Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) is looking into fortifying a flood mitigation drain in Bundusan – one of the many places that are affected by heavy downpour in the district – to ease a ponding problem.

The area is prone to flash floods, with the water rising to chest-level and a danger to unsuspecting members of the public recently after less than half an hour of rain.

A DID spokeswoman said protection work might be carried out on the existing drain, including a gabion wall at one section of the structure, to minimise such incidents.
