City Hall will step efforts to keep a Luyang neighbourhood free of strays, following a complaint about the dangers posed by these canines.A spokesman for the agency said its dog-control unit had inspected housing roads in Taman Jindo at the beginning of August and confirmed the presence of the strays.ADVERTISEMENT
“Our workers succeeded in catching one of these canines during this inspection,” he said.
“Phamplets about City Hall’s requirements, when it comes to rearing of dogs, have also been placed in the post-boxes of homes in this area.”
He said the unit would make more visits to the neighbourhood to catch as many of these strays as it could, while trying to resolve this problem.
SAMSON, who lives along Lorong Palas 1A, said two to three dogs had been seen wandering on the stretch.ADVERTISEMENT
He said the canines were generally seen in the morning or after dark, when the weather became cooler.
“A youngster was almost bitten, at one stage, by some these strays while walking home from the primary school here,” he said.

“The dogs even run after those vehicles driving in and out of the building.”
He said he first noticed the canines on the road earlier this year.
“After learning that the pupil almost came to harm, I met with a senior teacher at the school.
“She assured me that the administration would contact City Hall about the strays.”
Samson said some of the dogs wandering on the road had collars and blamed the owners of these pets for allowing their dogs to move about without supervision in the common areas around the neighbourhood.
He claimed to have seen one homeowner open his front gate in the morning so that his dogs could leave his compound to relieve themselves on the road shoulder.
“I have found their stool on the road in front of my home on several occasions, when I went to open my front gate to drive to work.
“Me and my neighbours are so fed up with having to hose down our drive ways.”
He said this rate-payer’s pets also barked incessantly, disrupting the peace of the neighbourhood.
“It is especially trying on those nursing or looking after babies, as these young ones start crying because of the noise.
“Some of my neighbours are ill and infirm. They complain that it is difficult to take a nap during the day.”
He said the barking often deprived him and his family of a restful sleep at night.
Samson said he had related his displeasure about the dogs to City Hall several times since the beginning of the year.
“I most recently contacted the agency towards the middle of August. So far, however, the nuisance posed by the strays still persists.”
The spokesman reminded dog owners to ensure that their pets were kept within their compound.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
