Out to make Pantai Manis Umno stronghold again
PAPAR: First-time Barisan Nasional (BN) Umno candidate for N29 Pantai Manis, Mohd Tamin Zainal (pic), said he is confident of winning back the seat this Saturday to make the area known as an Umno stronghold in the West Coast division.

A loyalist with Umno Papar for 16 years, he also pledged to bring back the glory days of Umno Papar.

“We are determined to make up for the defeat because this DUN Pantai Manis was a fortress of Umno and it is a vital challenge for us to get back because a party dignity is involved that we want to reclaim.

“Since then, we have always been going down to the ground and be with the people especially the grassroots all this while.

“Hence, I have a good feeling and confident that Umno and BN will return to lead the government not only in Pantai Manis but also in Sabah,” he said to Daily Express here, when met after a meet-the-people session with former Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman at Buang Sayang polling district centre.

At the same event, Musa witnessed handing over of some 200 Umno membership forms by former Warisan Papar members from four branches here to Umno Papar Divisional Chief Jamal Nerubi.

Also present were former Pantai Manis assemblymen-cum-former Umno Papar Divisional Chief Datuk Seri Abdul Rahim Ismail and former Papar MP cum Umno Papar Wanita Chief Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin and other party members.

Tamin, who is also the Umno Papar Deputy Chief, said he would not be complacent or take it easy when facing four other opponents contesting in the same seat although his focus would be on Warisan candidate whom he described as competent and capable challenger.

“In my struggle, I uphold our fighting tagline radu tatap radu and ‘fight we fight to the last point of my effort to win the seat for BN,” said the 50-year-old.

On why he is confident of reclaiming the seat, he noted that the people have experienced and realised that the 27-month-old government has not been producing many reforms and changes here.

He said the people are starting to get fed-up as they see nothing new that benefit them and they are even voicing out their grouses over assistance and promises that the Warisan-led State Government failed to deliver namely the RM300 cash aid.

On issues that he will focus for the constituency, Tamin, who is also a successful businessman, said he sees the development brought by Warisan is quite slow compared to during BN where small projects like building suspension bridges, repairing drainage system and providing PPRT houses to poor people made differences to the people’s lives.

“I am not saying that the previous government did not do nothing at all but it is just that Papar is still far behind when compared to during BN time.

“However, for Pantai Manis beach, I see that there is one thing that I can commend about Warisan is that the party did developed the socio-economic activities for people in Pantai Manis village which was a good effort. They built a new building for small-time traders to sell food and drinks at the beach, which I will to continue if I win in the election,” he said.

To make the beach more attractive so as to attract outside visitors, he said he aims to beautify the beach and upgrade the facilities with proper shops, a surau and public toilet for public use and comfort.

According to him, there is a need for a proper planning and economic development in the constituency in order to attract visitors.

He said if the 14,438 voters give him the mandate this Saturday, he promised to work hand-in-hand with the leaders of local authorities and come up with ideas to address and solve prolonged problems such as the traffic congestion during peak hours at a bridge near Kg Buang Sayang.

Since almost half of the voters in Pantai Manis comprise youths, he also pledged to give emphasis on youth empowerment especially sports development.

He said the focus will be on developing badminton, football and ping pong which have active associations in the district so as to continue producing talented and skilful players and subsequently uplift the name of Papar and Sabah.

“I am presently the Sabah Badminton Association Deputy President and Papar Badminton Association President where I have the knowledge and experiences in managing the sports concerned.

“If I win this Saturday, I will make sure that the players will have regular training to polish their skills and ready to compete in any competitions either at State, national or international level.
