This housing road in Taman Landmark transforms into a swimming pool after less than 30 minutes of rain.
A Penampang homeowner has spoken out about the poor management of the drainage servicing one part of Taman Landmark Phase 1.LYNDA said water had been stagnating in the drains along the T-junction leading to Lorong Landmark 2.ADVERTISEMENT
“The water overflows after less than half an hour of rainfall, flooding the stretch,” she said.
“The water level can sometimes rise so high that for a time a ‘mini swimming pool’ forms on in the section between the houses.”
She said these flash flood were an inconvenience to rate-payers there.
“At the times, the road can become impassable to motorists with smaller vehicles like a ‘Kancil’ or ‘Kelisa’.”ADVERTISEMENT
She was of the opinion that these flood woes stemmed from the manner in which the drains had been constructed.
“I suspect that there is no gradient for the water flow out, so the water just collects in one part of the drains.”

“I appeal to the local authorities to do something about the drainage here as soon as possible before a massive dengue outbreak happens.
“There is no point fogging after dengue cases are reported if preventative measures, such as dealing with the drainage problem, are not going to be implemented.”
Lynda said she and her neighbours were fed up of reporting the drainage woes to the District Council.
“Numerous complaints have been made to the Council but nothing seems to have been done to improve the situation,” she said on September 21.
“The flash floods have been taking place in the neighbourhood on and off for more than 10 years.”
A Council spokesman said the relevant section had been alerted to this matter.
“We will have to verify these claims before proceed with further action,” he said.
