Tree cut down
The dangerous tree which was leaning towards the old Tuaran main road has been removed.
City Hall’s Landscape Department personnel took proactive steps to cut down a tall tree leaning dangerously towards a section of the old Tuaran road, near Manggatal town, on Oct 19.

A regular user of the main road told Hotline recently that the tree, which looked like a rubber tree, had to be chopped down immediately as it posed danger to road users, particularly pedestrians.

“It wasn’t tilting like that before. It became as such after heavy rains, aggravated by strong winds,” stressed TERRY, who lives at a nearby village.

He said the current wet spell which brought heavy downpours had also caused the land where the tree was standing to become prone to flooding.

“The area’s constant exposure to water might have compromised the stability of that tree and also other trees there,” he added.

A City Hall spokeswoman, when contacted, said its recent effort to cut down the tree to its stump was necessary.

Notice the tree slanting towards the main road.

“We received several reports from the public about it posing serious safety hazards to motorists,” she added.

She said the road was cordoned off during the course of the work for safety reasons.

“We will be keeping an eye on the remaining trees in that area and to do pruning works as fast as we can once a report is lodged to us,” she added.
