Kota Kinabalu: The Welfare Services Department is keen to join forces with other government bodies to deal with the nuisance created by beggars in parts of the city.

Its Director Myrna Jimenez said the agency hoped to work together with the Immigration Department, City Hall and police to tackle the problem.

She said local vagrants nabbed by Welfare officers would be processed, with the intention of “saving” them, according to the conditions stipulated in the Destitute Persons Act 1977.
