Smelly water pooling on road irks users
A large pool of smelly water constantly forms at this part of Jalan Pintas Ujana.
A DAILY user of Jalan Pintas Ujana, off Jalan Tuaran Bypass in Inanam, is urging the relevant authority to attend to the manhole servicing the nearby properties there soon as possible.

The manhole, located at a section of the single-carriage road that leads to Taman Kingfisher from the bypass road, has been overflowing since late last month, according to DANNY, the complainant. He said the large pool of smelly water which formed on the road inconvenienced road users and those residing and working nearby.

“I am forced to keep the car windows closed to prevent the stench from coming into my car,” he added.

On top of this, he said the foul-smelling liquid also soiled the tyres of vehicles of those driving back to the residential area.

“I am so fed up of having to wash my tyres to get rid of the stink.

“I suspect that the structure is blocked as it has not been cleared for some time,” he added.

He said he initially thought the water originated from a leaking water pipe in that area but the Water Department did its part recently to confirm that its pipeline there was fine.

“I’m truly grateful that they (Department) immediately came down to verify the problem when it was reported to them,” he added. He hoped the caretaker of the sewerage will take the necessary step to address the problem as soon as possible as the sewage which is constantly pooling on the road will damage the bitumen prematurely. “We can’t afford to let this happen, given the importance of this road which serves as a shortcut to the residential area from the Inanam area,” he added.

A City Hall spokesman said the matter would be checked soon as possible.

“Our labourers will remove any blockages from inside the sewer line if the responsibility to handle this task is ours,” he added.

He said it would liaise with the rightful authority if the work is outside its work scope.

Hotline would follow up on the case again later.
