Dementia up as population ages
Memory Cafe (Online Session), a weekly activity conducted for senior citizens at the Comfort Aged Care Centre at Kg Likas, Kota Kinabalu.
Kota Kinabalu: Dementia is becoming a household word where incidences is increasing with the rise in the ageing population.

It is an umbrella term used to describe a range of progressive neurological disorders, namely conditions affecting the brain.

Founder-cum-Geriatric Care Manager of Comfort Aged Care Centre at Kg Likas, Kent Chau Tak Bin (pic), said at the recent Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) Virtual Conference 2020: “As we grow older, our risk of developing dementia increases. Medical statistics show that one out of five persons, 80 years and above, would suffer from dementia. “Alzheimer’s disease (AD), which is the most common type of dementia, is on the rise. AD is an irreversible, progressive brain disorder, and currently there is no cure.
