Kota Kinabalu: Business premise owners want restrictions on widespread smoking and vaping in the open following claims that tobacco smoke and vape fumes can carry Covid-19 viruses a further than breathing, talking or letting off a mild cough.

They claim the SOP and regulations as applied now reek of double standards.

According to restaurateur Lim Chean Hong, BBC reported Cambridge virologist Dr Chris Smith as saying so in the presence of Oxford epidemiologist Prof. Sian Griffiths.

It was also noted that the UK closed down pubs and banned take-aways of alcoholic drinks, just as South Korea and Japan had to deal with their nightclub clusters spread. Smoking was also blamed for Covid-19 spread in prisons or detention centres.
