PETALING JAYA: Restaurants, food stalls, and any establishments selling food items are allowed to operate until 10pm effective tomorrow, senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.
However, dine-in will still not be allowed.

He said this was in view of public complaints on the opening times. Restaurants and shops selling food items were previously allowed to operate from 6am until 8pm.
Noting the various complaints about the difficulties caused by the 8pm closing, Ismail said the government had held regular meetings and asked various committees dealing with health, security and the economy to discuss the issue.
“Many people said they could not buy food when they return home from work because of the early closing time,” said Ismail.
“We also received feedback from vendors selling popular night-time food like burgers, satay and others, who said their customers only start coming in after the maghrib and ishak prayers, so they can’t run their businesses.

“After discussing this … the government has agreed to extend the operating times for restaurants and shops until 10pm starting from tomorrow.”

Ismail said food delivery services and “anything” related to food – such as food trucks and road-side stalls – will also be allowed to operate until 10pm.

Frustration about the initial closing time saw hashtags such as #SiBodohKauDengarSini trend on Twitter earlier this week after a user expressed her anger at not being able to buy food past 8pm.
