PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has announced that the MySejahtera application for smartphones would be updated at the end of the month with a new feature to register those eligible to receive the Covid-19 vaccine.

Dr Maheshwara Rao Appannan, a senior official on disaster management at the health ministry, said the feature would allow healthcare officials to keep track of those taking part in the national immunisation programme.

Speaking to the media at an emergency briefing today, Maheshwara said use of the app would also enable the government to monitor the public for any adverse effects after they were vaccinated.

He said there were a high number of MySejahtera users and the ministry was confident of being able to keep records on “as many people as we can” to achieve the target of vaccinating 70-80% of the population.

He strongly urged everyone in the country to download MySejahtera and enable “push notifications” now, so the ministry could reach out and provide the latest updates on the pandemic to as many people as possible.

Maheshwara said all personal data collected under the application was in compliance with current laws.

Dr Nazrila Hairizan Nasir, a deputy director of primary health, said users should use the self-reporting function on MySejahtera to inform the district Covid-19 Assessment Centre and the Covid-19 Unified Command Centre of their status.

By doing so, those tested positive for Covid-19 could immediately undergo home quarantine while waiting to be contacted by healthcare workers for further health assessments.

The CAC will contact the command centre to admit the patient to either a Covid-19 quarantine and low-risk treatment centre or the hospital, depending on their condition. High-risk cases will be given priority.

Those in home quarantine will be monitored through MySejahtera for daily health assessment for up to 10 days.
