Tresspassing: Plumber is fined RM800
Kota Kinabalu: A 35-year-old plumber, who trespassed into a furniture factory area to catch fish, was fined RM800 or one week’s jail, Friday.

Jerry Jenis pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence at Kina Max Company at Kg Pulutan, Manggatal at 6.30pm on June 7.

He was charged under Section 447 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to six months or fine of up to RM3,000 or both, upon conviction.

When asked by the court on his reason to be at the said area, Jerry said he went there to catch fish as he has no fix income.

Duty counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence, representing Jerry, applied for a lenient fine as Jerry was a first offender and remorseful.

According to the facts of the case presented by the prosecution, Jerry was arrested by police following a report by a worker, who saw him in the area in a suspicious manner.

In another case, a 27-year-old was sentenced to six months for selling two stolen cooking gas cylinders.

Muhammad Abdullah admitted to committing the offence at 6.50pm on June 6 at Kg Melawa in Telipok.

The court heard from the prosecution the complainant, Abduham Munta Abdurham, who found the properties were stolen from his house, which was broken into, began searching for his properties. The complainant was told by the villagers to look for a man named Totok, as he was known to have a record of stealing.

After being persuaded, Muhammad then led the complainant to the place where he sold the stolen gas cylinders.

Muhammad was then arrested by police following a report lodged by Abduham.

Duty counsel Lim for Muhammad, applied for a lenient jail term as he could not afford to pay a fine.

The charge under Section 414 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both on conviction.

Meanwhile, a woman was charged with damaging someone else’s car.

Dg Nurul Safika Datu Zainal was accused of committing the offence by kicking the passenger’s left door at 6.30pm on June 2 at Kg Likas.

No plea was recorded from Nurul after the charge was read out to her via video conferencing before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles.

She was charged under Section 6 (1A) of the Minor Offences Ordinance.

The court set July 21 for mention and released Nurul on a bail of RM1,100 in two sureties. Inspectors Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit and Lim Swee Beng prosecuted.
