Cops probe journalists 'trespassing' into Serdang quarantine centre
Police have questioned doctors and nurses in MAEPS over the presence of journalists at the quarantine centre during Monday’s strike by junior doctors.
PETALING JAYA: Police are investigating the case of several media practitioners who allegedly entered the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) quarantine centre without permission on Monday to cover the strike by junior doctors.

In a statement, Sepang deputy police chief Md Noor Aehawan Mohamed said police had received a report yesterday from the MAEPS management regarding the “intrusion” by six media practitioners from various media organisations.

The report was lodged by the director of the MAEPS quarantine centre who alleged that the media’s presence at the centre on Monday to cover the strike did not get approval from the higher-ups.

“One of the media practitioners made a live video while in the MAEPS’ hall,” he said.

The hall that housed about 496 female Covid-19 patients has been gazetted as a quarantine centre and outsiders are prohibited from entering the area without permission.

“So far, the police have recorded statements of 17 health ministry staff, including doctors and nurses who were on duty during the incident to assist the police investigation and to confirm the media presence in the hall.”

He said the investigation was also being conducted under Section 448 of the Penal Code for trespassing, Rule 17(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations 2021 for failing to comply with Covid-19 SOPs, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998 for making video recordings in a prohibited area.
