Cops hunting for Covid positive man who fled

Kota Kinabalu: Police are hunting for a positive Covid-19 man who fled while on his way to the Likas Quarantine Centre, here, Monday.In the 5.45pm incident, Lo Hin Khiong, 38, was earlier picked up from the Penampang Police Station using a State Health Department (JKNS) vehicle.

However, the suspect fled as soon as the vehicle stopped at the traffic light near the Likas Sports Complex intersection.
Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said initial investigation found that the suspect was released by Penampang police to be sent to the quarantine centre.
He said the suspect, who was sitting at the back passenger seat, opened the car door and fled. “JKNS officers called for the suspect to come back but were ignored and the suspect fled.
“The officers immediately lodged a report,” he said, Tuesday.

Mohd Zaidi said investigation found that the suspect was detained by Penampang police last Friday under Section 457 of the Penal Code.
He said the suspect was remanded for four days before being released on police bail after being confirmed positive for Covid-19.

“Efforts to track down the suspect are underway and investigation papers have been opened in accordance with Section 269 of the Penal Code.
“Anyone who has information about the suspect can come forward and channel it to the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the police,” he said.
