Man held as cigarettes seized in L Datu
LAHAD DATU: The district police detained a 49-year-old man and seized 36,980 sticks of cigarettes in a raid carried out in front of the Fish Market and Ko Nelayan areas, Saturday.

District Police Chief, ACP Rohan Shah Ahmad, in a statement on Sunday said police also seized two boats (pic) with 15HP and 30HP engines during the raid.

Rohan said during the raid under Op Kontraban which was carried out by Crime Investigation Division inspected two boats berthing at the Ko Nelayan.

Upon inspection, he said, the team discovered cigarettes without tax confirmation from the Customs Department.

“The seizure comprising the cigarettes and two boats as well as the engines was worth about RM30,000.

“The cigarettes are believed to be sold at the Fish Market areas,” he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 135(1)(D) of Customs Act 1967.
