SANDAKAN: Those who have yet to receive their second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine in the district were advised to comply with the appointment given to them by the Health Ministry through the Sandakan Health Office.Sandakan Health Officer, Dr Johari Awang Besar, said this is to prevent congestion at the vaccine administration centres (PPV) here. He said this in response to the congestion reported at one of the PPVs, namely the Community Hall, from Thursday to Friday. Meanwhile, Dr Johari said the PPV at Hakka Hall at Mile 6 here will be closed beginning Saturday (Sept 11).

“Therefore, all those who have received their first dose at the Hakka Hall previously will receive the appointment for their second dose at the Community Hall and Tiong Hua Hall beginning Sept 9 according to the time set, which will be in stages, like for example, only 150 recipients will be given an appointment at one particular time. “However, what happened was the recipients came early in the morning and did not follow the time set in the appointment schedule given to them via the short messaging system (SMS) and thus caused the congestion.

“Therefore, we advise all those going for their second dose to comply with the appointment that had been set for them. If this is complied with, there will be no congestion and standard operating procedure (SOP) breaches,” he said.

He said there are 15 security personnel on duty to handle and control a congestion and ensure all the vaccine recipients complied with the SOP. For recipients of the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine in early August, he said all of them will receive their second dose after the ninth week which is 63 days from the date they were given the first dose injection, not similar with the Pfizer BioNTech and Sinovac vaccines where the recipients receives their second dose after 21 days. “Therefore, to all who received their first dose of the AstraZeneca, please look at the appointment date set in the vaccination card that was given and wait for a notification via SMS from the Health Office to come to the PPV on the date and time set for the second dose. “For recipients of the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine, please ignore and do not follow the appointment stated in the MySejahtera to avoid confusion,” he said.
