Two habitual addicts jailed

Kota Kinabalu: Two men who took drugs repeatedly, were jailed five years and ordered given a stroke of the cane each.

Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim meted out the sentence to Arzlyie Aliayakim and Micheal Lee Ming Sing who pleaded guilty separately to the charge against them.

Arzlyie was found taking drugs at 1.30pm on March 17 this year after his urine tested positive for drugs at the Papar police station.

He has two previous convictions for taking drugs.

Meanwhile, Lee was tested positive for drug in his urine at 5pm on Aug 20, 2020 at the police station here.

Lee has three previous convictions.

The offence under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39C(1) of the same Act provides for a jail term of between five and seven years, and whipping, on conviction.

The court ordered the duo to serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrests, respectively.

After completing their jail sentence, the court ordered the duo to be placed under police supervision for two years.
