Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s new Covid-19 cases dipped below the 1,000 mark with 962 on Saturday, the lowest figure recorded since Aug 4, said Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

“This is a decrease of 311 cases compared to 1,273 on Saturday,” he said in a statement, Saturday, adding that all districts recorded two-digit cases.

“None of the districts on Saturday recorded a three-digit figure, unlike before. This is a good sign. However, it is still too early to predict whether this downward trend will continue,” he said.

Masidi said 19 deaths were recorded throughout the State – seven in Sandakan, three in KK, two each in Tenom and Kota Marudu and one each in Lahad Datu, Tawau, Papar, Kinabatangan and Kunak.

No new clusters were recorded.

On Sabah’s caseload, Masidi said Kota Kinabalu topped the list with 91 cases, followed by Sandakan (81), Lahad Datu (73), Tuaran (70), Kota Marudu (65) and Tawau (64).

“Kota Kinabalu recorded a significant decrease (-122). Other districts recording a decrease include Lahad Datu (-45), Beluran (-40), Kota Marudu (-33), Tongod (-31), Telupid (-24), Keningau (-20) and Penampang (-18),” he said.

Masidi said close contacts continued to be the largest contributor to the caseload with 492 cases (51.1 per cent).

However, he said the percentage of symptomatic cases increased from 28.9 per cent on Friday to 38.8 per cent on Saturday with 368 cases.

“For comparison, 61 per cent of Lahad Datu’s cases are symptomatic while in Kalabakan 84.6 per cent are symptomatic cases,” he said.

He added other districts recording a relatively high number of symptomatic cases include Sandakan (44.4 per cent), Tawau (45.3 per cent) and Kota Kinabalu (37.3 per cent).

“The high percentage of symptomatic cases is a reminder that all of us must increase our efforts to comply with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

“Symptomatic cases, which are also known as sporadic cases, are often linked to a lack of SOP-compliance and taking care of one’s health,” he said.

Masidi said of the 962 caseload, 361 are overdue cases from two to three days ago, 47 cases are from four to five days ago and seven from more than five days ago.

He said category two infections topped the caseload with 717 cases, while 144 are in category one, four in category three, three in category four and seven in category five. 87 cases are still being evaluated while 91.68 per cent of patients are Malaysians.

He added that 13 cases involved babies less than a year old, 95 involved one to five-year-olds, 82 involved six to 11-year-olds, 81 involved 12 to 17-year-olds and 116 involved 18 to 25 -year-olds, 473 involved 26 to 59-year-olds whereas 102 cases involved those aged above 60 years. The caseload also comprised 882 Malaysians and 80 non-Malaysians, 953 local cases and 9 imported cases, while 491 are unvaccinated and 389 have completed both doses.

Some 2,233 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from the hospital while 3,566 patients are currently receiving treatment at hospitals, low risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRCs), prisons/temporary detention centres and private facilities.

Masidi said 158 patients are under critical care, with 137 in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)/repurposed critical care as well as 21 in the open ward (high dependency ward (HDW)/acute cubicle), with 58 needing ventilator support.

On Sabah’s immunisation programme, Masidi said 35,656 vaccine doses were administered on Friday, of which 19,166 were adult recipients and 16,490 were teenage recipients.

He said as of Sept 24, some 2,179,961 individuals have completed at least their first dose of the vaccine, which comprises 1,978,589 adults.

“Some 1,672,329 individuals have fully completed their vaccine doses, which is 61.6 per cent. 201,372 teenagers have been vaccinated so far, which is 47.2 per cent of the teenage population,” he said.

Meanwhile, Base Camp Bornion Timber Sdn Bhd, Batu 46, Tulid, Sook in Keningau as well as Kg Tinongian and Kg Karagasan in Ranau, will be placed under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) from Sept 26 until Oct 9.

The existing EMCO in Kg Kopungit, KK will be lifted on Sept 25 as scheduled.
