Mudering girlfriend: Man’s case goes to High Court
Kota Kinabalu: The case of a 30-year-old man charged with murdering his girlfriend has been transferred to the High Court.

Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles on Monday made the order on Hartono Janang’s case following an application by the prosecution to transfer the case to the High Court.

Hartono was accused of murdering Kamalia Yusopp, 35, between 12.30am and 6.55pm on Jan 19 this year at a hill behind a hotel at Bandaran Berjaya, here.

The offence under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries a death penalty, on conviction.

Hartono’s plea will be taken in the High Court.

Hartono, who was not represented, was ordered to be further remanded as the charge against him has no provision for bail.

In another case, a man was fined RM25 or a day’s jail for behaving abusively at a public place four months ago.

Minson Ombolog pleaded guilty to punching and kicking two cars using a helmet with the intention to attack those inside the vehicle at 11.50pm on May 25 near Taman Fortuna.

He was charged under Section 8(1)(e) of the Minor Offences Ordinance which provides for a RM25 fine or jail term of up to one week, on conviction.

Meanwhile, four people were penalised for committing drug-related offences.

Mujim Talip was sentenced to seven months’ jail after he admitted to having 0.03gm of syabu at Penampang on June 18.

Jie Romeo, Eric Liew and Daryl Ian were each jailed five months after they pleaded guilty separately to taking syabu at different locations here and in Penampang between May 16 and May 24.

Mujim was charged under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952 which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years jail or both, on conviction.

Jie, Eric and Daryl were charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail, on conviction.
