Sabah women lift 4 golds
The Sabah contingent with the gold medal winners at the competition venue yesterday.
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah women lifters delivered four gold medals at the National Weightlifting Championship held in Rompin, Pahang, Monday.

The winners are Nilcy Tunik Kat  in the 49kg category after she lifted 58kg in the snatch and 80kg in clean and jerk, Elly Cascandra  in the 55kg with 75 kg in snatch and 90kg in clean and jerk, Marceeta Marcus in 59kg with 75kg in snatch and 103 kg in clean and jerk , and  Caroline Joachim who lifted 80kg in snatch and 100kg in clean and jerk in the 100kg category.

Sabah Weightlifting Association President Philip Gisan , when contacted, was pleased with the performance of the athletes.

“It was an excellent result from the girls. Although we only had four representatives but all of them managed to deliver gold medal performance for the state,” he said, Monday.

He also expressed his gratitude to the Youth and Sports Ministry for their financial assistance through  the Sabah Sports Council. According to him, the championship started on Saturday was held to select athletes to be drafted into the National Squad and for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Meanwhile  the contingent was led by team manager Lawrance Bell, Coaches Nicholas Wong   and Stephen Gampion while the chaperone was Wellma John.
