Cancer-stricken woman needs financial help
Kota Kinabalu: A mother of two who is suffering from lymphoma is seeking financial help from the public.

Housewife Tong Poh Yuk (pic), 34, said she was advised by her doctor to undergo immunotherapy and test the feasibility of pembrolizumab.

Her husband Foo Tze Cheng said Tong was initially diagnosed with tongue cancer in June last year.

“Her tongue was swollen and we went for a check-up and found out that it was cancer,” he told a press conference at the Luyang Assemblyman’s service centre, here, Saturday.

“She had undergone an operation for that and then in December last year, her neck was slightly swollen.

“We went for another check-up and she was diagnosed with lymphoma.”

He said Tong went for two sessions of chemotherapy starting April as well as 35 times of radiotherapy in Likas Women and Children’s Hospital.

“However, the doctors observed that the treatment has no effect on her cancer, so in July they proposed her to undergo immunotherapy,” he said.

A complete cycle of the therapy consists six times of treatment with each treatment (conducted every three weeks) costing approximately RM16,000. Tong and her husband had received a RM10,000 donation from a temple in Penampang that would help cover her first immunotherapy treatment later this month.

Luyang Assemblyman Phoong Jin Zhe, who was also present, said the huge medical cost is a burden for the family, especially when Foo had to leave his job to fully take care of Tong.

“The husband used to be a salesman but is jobless now as he has to accompany his wife for treatment.

“Tong’s mother had sought help from me…so, I decided to hold a press conference to help them to seek help from the public.

“Public support would surely give help and hope to Tong and her family. The medical cost is very burdening for the entire family,” he said.

For more information, contact Foo at 010-828 5962 and donations can be channelled to his Public Bank account 4479267112.
