18 new Delta cases found in Sabah, three in Labuan
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah recorded 18 new Delta Covid-19 cases while Labuan three, according to an official update today for the period between Oct 20 and 28.

Altogether, Malaysia has found 259 new Covid-19 cases involving the Delta variant and two involving the Beta variant, said the update by Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah further.

Noor Hisham, in a statement, said a total of 2,645 Covid-19 cases involving variants of concern (VOC) and variants of interest (VOI) was found by studies by genomic institutes and medical research centres.

Of the VOC, there had been 2,385 Delta cases, 226 Beta cases and 14 Alpha cases so far.

There had been 13 Theta cases, four Kappa cases and three Eta cases in the VOI category.

The data was based on ongoing studies by the Institute for Medical Research, Faculty of Medicine (FOM-UM), Integrative Pharmacogenomics Institute (iPROMISE-UiTM), the Malaysia Genome Institute and the Tropical Infectious Diseases Research and Education Centre (TIDREC-UM).
