LAHAD DATU: A motorcyclist was killed when his motorcycle collided with a van near a junction to Taman CL, Jalan Assam, here, Wednesday. The van was heading towards Lahad Datu from Kota Kinabalu, while the motorcycle was from the opposite direction when the incident occurred at 7.45pm.District Police Chief ACP Rohan Shah Ahmad in a statement, Thursday, said the van was turning to the right towards the junction while at the same time, the motorcyclist tried to avoid the collision.

However, the distance was too close, resulting in the motorcyclist being unable to avoid hitting the front of the van. The impact caused the motorcyclist to be thrown to the road and was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer. The van driver escaped unscathed.
Police urged witnesses to contact Traffic Investigating Officer, Insp Muhammad Rasul Ramlee at 089-881255 (extension 414) to facilitate investigations. Rohan also advised road users to always drive vigilantly to ensure everyone’s safety.
