RANAU: A building housing seven lots of shops was destroyed in a fire in Kampung Perancangan, here, Tuesday evening.

Ranau Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Ridwan Mohd Taib said the department received an emergency call at 7.59pm.

Ridwan, who led the operation, said an FRT machine, including an FRV, EMRS and utility vehicle along with 12 firefighters rushed to the scene 23km from the fire station.

“Upon arrival, it was found that a building block involving seven semi-permanent shops with an area of 70’x10” was completely destroyed.

“The extinguishing operation uses one stream of 200 feet two springs from machinery and one stream of 200 feet two springs from a transport pump from an open water source (river),” he told the media. Ridwan said no casualties and injuries were reported.

He said the fire brigade then made a thorough inspection to ensure there were no other dangers at the scene.

“The operation was controlled at 9.33pm and the operation ended completely at 10.06pm.

“The cause of the fire and the amount of losses are still under investigation,” explained Ridwan.
