Man cheats death in freak accident

RANAU: A man cheated death after the car he was driving in was involved in a freak accident at KM19, Jalan Ranau-Tamparuli, near the Taman Kinabalu junction, here, Saturday.

Ranau District Police Chief, DSP Simiun Lomudin, said the victim was Jaafar Dorong, 61.

He said in the 1.30pm incident, the victim was driving a Toyota Fortuner VRZ from Telupid to Kota Kinabalu.

“Upon reaching the site of the incident, the vehicle driven by the victim was believed to have lost control before skidding to the right side of the road and crashed into a Perodua Axia and four other vehicles, which fortunately, were without anyone inside in the parking lot outside Taman Kinabalu.

“The other four vehicles involved were Perodua Bezza, Toyota Hilux Vigo, Isuzu Dmax and Perodua Viva,” he said, adding that the vehicles were all damaged following the incident.

Simiun said, fortunately, the driver and passenger of the Toyota Fortuner did not suffer any injury. He added that the case is being investigated under Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.
