Tuaran District Police Chief DSP Mohd Hamizi Halim said the confiscated items were destroyed upon receiving instruction from the Magistrate’s Court. He said the disposal of goods in the case involved non-taxable goods which were investigated under Section 135 (1) (d) of the Customs Act 1967.

“All items, in this case, are the result of confiscation from operations around 2019 to 2020.

“The operation involved the seizure of four lorries with a load of 1,678 cartons of liquor in Tamparuli with an estimated total value of RM85,000,” he said, Tuesday. Heavy machinery was used to destroy the goods.   Representatives of the Head of the Criminal Investigation Department, the Head of the Logistics and Technology Department and the Head of Integrity and Standards Compliance Department of the Tuaran Police Headquarters were invited to witness the disposal.  On that note, Mohd Hamizi advised the community here not to be directly or indirectly involved in smuggling activities.  He also urged those with information to come forward to facilitate investigations.  “Police will always take serious note and take appropriate action on any criminal incident and information channelled in the district,” he said.
