Drink driving: Duo jailed, fined

TAWAU: Two men were jailed and fined for driving while under the influence of alcohol, respectively.Yap Wee Hong, 50, and Lairry Johnny, 31, pleaded guilty separately before Magistrate Amir Shah Amir Hassan, to the charge against them.

Yap was jailed three months and fined RM10,000 in default six months’ jail while Lairry was jailed four months plus a fine of RM10,000 or six months’ jail.
The duo was detained on Oct 30 this year at 9pm along Jalan Chong Thien Vun, here. The offence under Section 45(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 carries a jail term of up to 20 years and fine of up to RM30,000, on conviction.
The court ordered the duo to serve the jail sentence from the date of their conviction s on Wednesday. ASP Joan Lee appeared for the prosecution.
