Woman who claimed to be biological mum of child jailed and fined

TAWAU: A 44-year-old woman who claimed she was the “biological mother” of a child when applying for a MyKad, was jailed seven days and fined RM10,000 or six months’ jail.Rozanah Ajak pleaded guilty before Magistrate Amir Shah Amir Hassan.

She gave the fake information in the birth certificate of Azlin Abdullah by confessing that she was the biological mother in order to apply identification card for Azlin at 9.24am on June 15, 2010 at the Tawau National Registration Department (NRD), here.
The offence under Section 25(1)(b) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 for giving fake information.
In handing down the sentence, Amir urged the NRD to take action against those committing such offence as it could have serious implications if citizenship is given to foreigners.
He added that such case serves as a warning to the public not to simply give fake details when applying for identification documents. Prosecuting Officer Nurul Fariza Abdullah from NRD appeared for the prosecution while counsel Jhasarry P. Kang defended Rozana.
