Kota Kinabalu: The public have been urged not to worry or panic when the sound of a siren is heard in the State Capital tomorrow (Wednesday).

This is because the Civil Defence Force is carrying out maintenance of the system.

Sabah Civil Defence Department Director Colonel Sharudin Md Zain said the siren with a power of 400 volts was installed some 50 years ago. He said the testing and maintenance works would be conducted during the daytime from 11am until noon, and at night from 10pm-11pm.

“The siren test run will be performed by activating two sound tones in each phase which will be operated for two minutes for each sound tone.

“This is to see the coverage of distance and sound from the siren’s location,” he said in a statement. Sharudin also said the department would also locate its personnel at several locations to ensure public safety during the test.
