Omicron: Airport security beefed up

JAKARTA: State-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) tightened supervision for international travel at Soekarno-Hatta Airport (pic) following rampant cases of a new coronavirus variant, Omicron, in a number of countries.The firm’s director of operation and services Muhamad Wasid said his side would set out more checkpoints.

“Checkpoint will be added to ensure that the entry restriction of foreigners according to the Transportation Minister’s circular Number 102 of 2021 can be applied properly,” he said in a written statement, Friday.
Previously, passengers would only meet a checkpoint for health documents checking by the Health Ministry’s Port Health Office (KKP Kemenkes) officers. Angkasa Pura II has now added a checkpoint monitored by immigration officers. However, the passport stamp would still be carried out at the existing immigration counter.
The government decided to refuse entry of foreign nationals from eleven countries at a high risk of Omicron transmission. Soekarno-Hatta Airport Executive General Manager Agus Haryadi added that the international airport is also ready to run NAAT or other types of tests or RT-PCR tests for passengers upon arrival. The airport has already been equipped with a Level-2 Bio Safety Laboratory (BSL-2) that is able to examine up to 1,216 samples per hour or around 29,184 per day.
