Kota Kinabalu: The 2022 Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival organised by the United Sabah Chinese Communities Association of Kota Kinabalu (USCCAKK) will be live streamed so that people throughout Sabah could enjoy the performances and immerse in the Chinese New Year festivity. USCCAKK President Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen said the much-anticipated event could only be held at half capacity of the venue in compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) due to Covid-19.

“So once USCCAKK obtained approval from the State Government to organise the event, the association decided to live stream the performances so that people in Sabah could watch the lion dance no matter where they are. “This is also in line with the association’s objective to promote Chinese culture,” she said during a courtesy call on Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu, Liang Caide, here, recently.

On behalf of USCCAKK, Wong thanked Liang for his continuous support towards Chinese cultural and educational activities, particularly the Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival. Besides briefing Liang on the preparation work, the association extended its invitation to Liang as special guest of the festival, which will be held at Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) at noon on Jan 15.

Meanwhile, Liang recalled attending the event in 2018, 2019 and 2020 and commended USCCAKK’s effort in preserving and promoting Chinese cultural activities in Sabah. He also vowed to sponsor and support the Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival this year. Also present at the courtesy call was USCCAKK deputy president cum organising chairman Datuk Chua Soon Ping and Vice Consul General Wu Xiaoqing.
