LABUAN: The search and rescue operation for a local fisherman who was feared to have drowned in the waters of Pulau Lambidan, Labuan, which was launched on Monday, ended after it did not find any positive clues.

Labuan Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Director Maritime Captain Nudin Jusoh said the Kota Kinabalu Maritime Rescue Sub Centre (MRSC) ended the operation at 6.30pm on Friday after the team did not find any clues throughout the operation.

Mohammad Shahrijan Sadeh, 39, was reported missing after going out to sea to fish at 6am on Monday.

Nudin said the search and monitoring would be continued by the relevant agencies through daily coastal control operations.

The five-day operation involved a total of 45 members from various agencies such as MMEA, Royal Malaysia Police, Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Force and Rela.

The total area of the rescue sector covers 184 nautical miles with five assets mobilised over the five days of operation.

The maritime community is urged to continue to improve security when carrying out activities at sea and report any emergencies at sea using the 999 hotline (MERS) or 087-453777 (Maritime Labuan Zone Operations Centre).
