Kota Kinabalu: A 56-year-old is suspected of being implicated in theft involving RM230,744.

City Police Chief ACP Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said police have since recovered RM185,744 and are on the lookout for Fredius George, 33, addressed at Kg Kabatang Baru, Keningau to facilitate investigations under Section 379 of the Penal Code.

A Proton Iswara, a set of keys, two pairs of hand gloves and a hammer were also seized.

Police first received a report from a 40-year-old woman who said a significant sum of money kept in her car boot had been stolen.

She lodged the report at 4.34pm on Jan 10.

The woman claimed she parked her car at the bus stop in front of Likas Square at 11.45am on Jan 10 to pick up money from a retail establishment in the premises.

When she returned to her car, she discovered the car alarm had been activated and the driver’s seat window had been smashed.

She discovered two bags containing her company daily collection money missing.

At the same time, a member of the public approached the woman to tell her that a man had broken the car’s driver seat window before unlocking the boot and walking across the road with the money bags.

A motorcycle police patrol team was deployed to the site and the 56-year-old man in the driver’s seat of an Iswara parked along the roadside in front of a primary school in Jalan Teluk Likas was arrested.

The passenger in the front passenger seat of the Iswara, on the other hand, managed to flee with RM45,000 in his possession.

The 56-year-old said he was merely acting as a driver.
