Secrets to reap the benefits of a new year
WE are all in a new year now, and it is the best time to craft and design as to how we want 2022 to be from sunrise to sunset daily.

Strategic planning, reviewing past successes and failures and preparations are the key to getting the most out of the new year.

Making new year resolutions is fine but often not followed because many people are not conscious and focused on achieving them.

This could be attributed to their everyday busy lifestyle and discomforts that surfaces constantly; they forget to centre on themselves, thus becoming disconnected from the core of who they are.

Our body, mind and spirit get weakened when we fail to stop and take care of ourselves and, eventually, everything else in our lives hurts.

Remember, our lives are not meant to make money, eat, sleep, and gossip or inundate with sufferings. We should realise the purpose of our existence: to be in peace with ourselves, vibrate happiness and be in oneness with nature.

I want to focus this column on some result orientated ancient techniques that should be embraced at the start of the year and stay on track in achieving them.

The secrets were picked up in my travels to India and meeting renowned masters and holy men. The tips they shared can be observed quickly by anyone seeking to enrich their lives daily.

You need not do anything unusual to ignite the magic of your life but to follow the basic daily regime of pure consciousness. Start with avoiding having late nights. Have adequate hours of sleep and wake up at sunrise to connect to the freshness of each day. The benefits of rising with the sun allow you to set the tone of your day, discipline and purify your body and mind.

According to the pious men I met in the Himalayas, early morning sun rays boost the body’s energy and enhance thinking and concentration.

Meditation, which allows you to stay in touch with your inner self or sit in silence, is encouraged during this period to calm the mind and absorb the energy of creation.

Exercise is essential to revitalise your body and this can be achieved by walking at your park, doing warms ups and stretches to reduce stress levels. Next, do the breathing exercise through the right nostril and then to the left until the breath is equal. This inhalation and exhalation movement helps improve your analytical thinking and verbal expression. To protect your aura, rub both your hands together until you feel a warm sensation and move the palms slowly over your face, head, shoulders, arms and legs to create an invisible shield. This activity will protect you from evil gazes and envious people, you encounter daily when you step out of your home.

Conclude the exercise by chanting the sacred sound of the universe syllable Aum three times to empower yourself and activate your inner energy.

Your mental state, related to your emotional wellbeing, should be given attention next.

Here remove all destructive thoughts of anger, jealousy and irritability that can contribute to tension, anxiety and hopelessness.

If you cannot do it quietly, play your favourite music to guide and keep you away from any distractions.

Once you have harmonised yourself, stay connected to your inner self by mindful of your daily affairs. Do everything from cooking a meal to handling your office work with enthusiasm and creativity to stay alert and feel good.

To maintain the mood of excitement, you are encouraged to create an inspiration altar at your workspace or home to act as an antenna towards your happiness. The altar need not necessarily be related to religious products but any photograph, drawing, unique gift or affirmations that uplifts, relaxes and maintain your confidence and joyfulness throughout the day.

Have a balanced diet, avoid overeating and eat only when hungry.

Don’t forget to pamper yourself whenever you get a chance (weekly or monthly), like going for an oil massage, fascial, watching a movie, concert or treating yourself with what you like, and it can be done alone.

Finally, be aware of the tone of your voice and the choice of words you use when you speak because this will determine the comfort and blissful union you will have with the people you come in contact.

Speak with warmth because the cheerfulness you display will decide how you make or break your day.

All these activities are attainable and will shape how you want your day and year to be because their influence lies within you.
