Solve problems faced by people in Sandakan: LDP

SANDAKAN: Sandakan Municipal Council and other government agencies were urged to be proactive in solving the problems faced by the people.LDP Vice President, Robert Chong said since early January, Sandakan residents have been faced with many livelihood problems.

“We encounter uncertainty in the weather phenomena that causes flood within Sandakan and personal belongings have been destroyed. Then came the uprooting of trees where electrical and telephone poles were effected as well as unpassable roads, Chong said.
“I also received numerous calls urging for repair to the streetlights from Mile 1.5 to Mile 9 and Lai Fook Kim Road which have caused many accidents and fatal injuries.
“Sandakan roads condition have deteriorated in many areas and need immediate attention so as to minimise accidents,” he said.
Chong also stressed that water and electricity problems have been minimised as of now but still needed to be improved.

He also urged agencies to clear clogged drainage, repair damaged drainage that may be one of the causes of flood.
“Inspection of overgrown trees, old and rotten ones along the roadside should done and immediate action taken as the weather is uncertain.

“Repair or changing of streetlight bulbs should not take ages to do. Many accidents occurred due to the darkness and made worst if it was raining,: he said.
