‘Proposed Sabah Identity Card noble effort to protect rights of Sabahans’

RANAU: The proposal to for a Sabah Identity Card or “Sabah IC” is a noble effort to protect the due rights genuine Sabahans.Wiramuda Star Sabah Chief Kong Soon Choi said this must be followed by a clear understanding of legal policies that do not affect the overall relationship of the plural society in Sabah and Malaysia.

He was speaking when welcoming the Sabah IC Campaign Tour Team at the Ranau Hakka Food Court.
Recently, former Chief Minister cum SAPP President, Datuk Yong Teck Lee said he hoped the issuance of Sabah IC would take place earliest by next year.
“We Sabahans must take the initiative. Sabah State Assembly has to pass a motion on the matter,” he said.
Yong had said the Federal Government has no jurisdiction over IC issuance as long as Sabah does not grant or revoke citizenships.

The Sabah IC struggle is needed to resolve the age-old problem of illegal foreigners in Sabah, where the proposed Sabah IC would not only separate the locals and the foreigners but also weed out foreigners holding dubious documents.
