Kota Kinabalu: The SK Pekan Pitas Under-12 team are expected to do well in the State School Sports Council sepak takraw competition in July following their victory at the district level recently.

They won the title with second and third place going to SK Senaja and SK Rukom respectively.

The school’s headmaster Rohana Aling, who was also the organising chairperson, praised the coaches for the success.

“The victory of the SK Pekan Pitas team was due to the efforts of coaches Dee Harrydas Kudong, Mohd Najib Timbol and Razian Rahsid.

“We hope the team will continue to deliver in the State level competition which is expected to take place from July 6-8,” she said.

She added that apart from unearthing raw talents, the tournament was held to answer the call for the “One Student, One Sport” policy outlined by the Ministry of Education Malaysia.

“This tournament not only helped to prepare the squads for the tournament at the State level, it also gave confidence to the players as well as fostering cooperation among teachers in Pitas district.”

Meanwhile, the Under-18 category was won by SMK Telaga, followed by SMK Pitas and SMK Pitas II while the top three winners in the Under-15 category were SMK Pinggan Pinggan, SMK Bongkol and SMK Pitas.
