Kota Kinabalu: Some 150 Institut Sinaran (IS) students attended a career talk on entrepreneurship, here, recently.

The talk was part of the Diploma in Commerce’s Entrepreneurship module’s learning experience. In a statement, IS said the event aimed to connect IS students to industry players and gain insight to current employment trends. “For this talk, IS invited two Sabahan guest speakers, Sufri Sufian from Sfera studio and Preston Sean Soh from Nutribah to share their entrepreneurial journey,” it said. The first speaker, Sufri, is the owner of Sfera Studio, a Kota Kinabalu-based web development company. “Before finding success with his company, Sufri shared with the audience his tough road to entrepreneurship, including attempts in selling comics, creating a wedding app and renting out event spaces. “His advice to students is to not buckle under pressure and embrace failure.”   The second speaker, Preston, is a law graduate and has worked as a consultant and legal advisor in different companies before serving full time as Nutribah Executive Director. “In his talk, Preston highlighted the importance of being a good leader and not to be afraid to fail when you are still young,” it said. At the end of the event, the speakers were presented with a certificate of appreciation by IS Chief Executive Officer Michael Chin. “Judging from the positive feedback from the students and lecturers, IS hopes to organise more career talks like this in the future.” Meanwhile, IS Foundation in Science and Arts students had a first-hand experience and understanding of modern drone technology for applications like building inspection, aerial photography, medication delivery to remote areas as well as search and rescue, recently. Students were given the opportunity to do drone piloting using a DJI FPV drone.

“With the donation from Kudat businessman Datuk Chee Chi Vun who has been an active contributor to various charitable causes and schools in Sabah, IS plans to acquire industry grade 3D-printer and agricultural drone to equip its students with applied technology knowledge and skills,” said the Institute.
