TONGOD: Residents in Kuamut who have been waiting for more than 50 years to enjoy better road connectivity will see their dreams becoming a reality within five years.

This is because two road projects connecting the east coast and interior of Sabah that will pass through the district will be built and completed within five years, according to Kuamut Assemblyman Datuk Masiung Banah.

The projects will see the construction of 102 kilometres of sealed roads, said Masiung.

According to Masiung, the road between Linyukan, Tongod and Sinaran in Keningau is a distance of 55 kilometres and expected to cost RM320 million while the other is the RM300 million, 47km road that will link Kg Imbak to Imbak Canyon.

He said this when officiating at the tagal programme in Kg Entilibon, here, recently. The programme was organised by the Sabah Fisheries Department and eight tagal committees from the village.

Masiung, who is also Sabah Housing and Urban Development Board Chairman, said Phase One of the Linyukan, Tongod to Sinaran, Keningau road had commenced while work on the road to Imbak Canyon is expected to start early next year.

“These two road projects will bring economic boom to the people, including the emergence of new towns that will be landmarks in Tongod. “Most notably, this road alignment will give a new lease of life to the tourism industry and this is good news for the operator of the leading tropical forest resort, Imbak Canyon,” he said. According to Masiung, the construction of the road will facilitate the movement of residents from Tongod to the State Capital as it goes through Pensiangan and Keningau making it a shorter distance to travel.

“This route not only opens up land connection access but creates a lot of economic opportunities to the locals in each area of its route,” he added.
