RM72.4m from property tithes

Kota Kinabalu: Tithes from earnings contribute 40 pc of total property tithes in Sabah for 2022.Secretary of the Sabah Islamic Religion Council (Muis), Ramlan Awang said up to July 25, a total of RM72.4 million from property tithes was collected with tithes from earnings being the main contributor.ADVERTISEMENT
“Business tithe was the second biggest contributor with RM29.2 million from the total tithe collection of RM81.2 million,” he said, adding that it showed that the awareness to tithe obligation was increasing.
Speaking after a courtesy call on the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin, he said the money collected from the tithes will be put to good use by helping the needy.
During the call, the Head of State witnessed the handing over of tithes from Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Berhad (Bank Rakyat) to the Zakat and Fitra Division of Muis.
Bank Rakyat was represented by its Deputy CEO (Operations), Nor Haimee Zakaria and the amount was RM1,094,809.ADVERTISEMENT
Tun Juhar also received a courtesy call from the Sabah Anti-Tuberculosis Association (Sabata). They were led by their President, Masdah Enti.
The Head of State who is also Sabata Patron launched the annual Sabata Flag Day during the call.

Donations collected from the Flag Day which will be carried out throughout Sabah will be used to lighten the burden of TB victims.
