Special Assembly session on Anti-Hop
Masidi said the move guarantees government stability when party hopping has become the main factor behind the toppling of duly elected governments, including in Sabah.
A SPECIAL session to accommodate the tabling of the Anti-Hop Bill in Sabah following its passing in parliament last week can be arranged, said Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

The Local Government and Housing Minister was responding to Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) President Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili who said the Bill must be passed within a 60 day period following the constitutional amendment on July 28.

“It’s a question of when. We have no problems as far as the State Government is concerned. I think the crux of the matter or principle behind the Act is already well established. “We believe all parties will adhere to it not withstanding that an enactment for such voice is yet to be passed in Sabah,” he said, adding there is no law to compel its tabling. We should leave the decision to respective state governments, as far as Sabah is concerned or even Sarawak for that matter.

“We know what we should be doing…nobody should be dictating us. For all we know it could be less than 60 days,” he said.

Masidi said the move guarantees government stability when party hopping has become the main factor behind the toppling of duly elected governments, including in Sabah.

“In 2018, party hopping brought the end of Barisan Nasional’s reign and soon after, the same method was used to structure a new government.

“It is with hopes it (Bill passing) will end the episodes of undemocratically elected governments. “It’s high time for us to establish some form of predictability in governing,” said the Sabah Bersatu Deputy Chief at the Warriors Day celebrations and launch of the National Day programme at Padang Merdeka, Kota Kinabalu, on July 31. Masidi, who is also State Second Finance Minister, also urged more citizens to hang the National and State flags not only in their workplaces but also in their homes.

“We are facing an economic crisis, but to showcase our nationalism and love for our country we hope more people can at least buy a small flag to be raised inside their homes,” he said.
