Kota Kinabalu: A badly decomposed body of a woman in her 50s, believed to be a foreigner, was found in a makeshift hut behind a Petronas station along Jalan Tuaran, near Tebobon, Thursday.

City Police Chief ACP Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said the victim, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, is believed to have died at least three days ago.

“Only skeletal remains were left of her hands and feet. Her head was beginning to show the same condition.

“The victim is believed to have been living in the makeshift hut for quite some time. No criminal elements were found at the scene at 10.15am,” he said.

Zaidi said health workers disinfected the body before conducting closer examinations, adding the body was brought to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for Covid-19 screening before a post-mortem.

Reporting the discovery to police was Aaronly Rex, a man in his 30s, who was on his way to fish at the nearby swamps.

“I frequently see her on my way to the swamps. She lived alone after her husband whom we called ‘Bomoh’ passed away a few years ago.

“I heard talk of people finding her body and decided to check it out. I called the police after learning no one had reported the discovery,” he said when contacted.

He said the victim had no job and scavenged the nearby forests for her daily meals.
