LABUAN: The proposed construction of the Labuan Integrated Port project is expected to be tendered out in December, 2022, said Labuan Corporation Chairman Senator Datuk Bashir Alias Thursday.

He said the project, aimed to ease congestion and ensure smooth cargo operations at the existing Labuan’s containerised port of Labuan Liberty Wharf, would be built on 500 acres offshore at Rancha-Rancha.

“I have been told by Labuan Port Authority Chairman Datuk P Kalamanthan that the tender will be put out in December.

“We have identified the sea area of Rancha-Rancha. The Government has allocated 500 acres for the proposed project,” he said after receiving a visit from European Union Ambassador in Malaysia, Michalis Rokas.

Bashir said there is a need to do reclamation works for the proposed project.

He said the Labuan Corporation would assist in facilitating the proposed construction of the project.

“We welcome capable investors who are financially sound to take part in the tender process in the interest of the smooth implementation of the project,” he said.

The Dewan Negara on Aug 8 was told that the Ministry of Transport (MOT) would be studying the proposed construction.

Its Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said the one-year study, which had received the approval of the Labuan Port Authority, would be conducted next year. He said this in reply to a question from Bashir Alias regarding the latest development of the proposed construction of the Labuan Integrated Port project, which is planned to be built in the Rancha-Rancha industrial area.
