SANDAKAN: The State Agriculture Department is targeting to grow 1,500ha of pineapples which would make Sabah the third largest producer of pineapples in the country.

Deputy Chief Minister cum State Agriculture and Fisheries Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Jeffery Kitingan said this would contribute 6.1 per cent of the 17,228ha of pineapple plantations in the country.

To meet part the target, Jeffery announced that the QHUD1 pineapple clone would be planted in four areas - Kg Sumalang (Ranau), Bongawan (Papar), Sabah Pineapple Demonstration Plot in Tambunan and Sabah Pineapple Demonstration Plot in Papar - starting in 2023, under the guidance of the Agriculture Department.
