Illegal fined for taking part in illegal racing
The offence under Section 81(3) of the Road Transport Act 1987 provides for a fine of up to RM2,000 or imprisonment of up to six months, or both, on conviction.
TAWAU: An illegal immigrant was fined a total of RM1,700 for taking part in illegal motorcycle racing and riding a motorcycle without licence.

Samsir Nasrul, 25, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Leona Dominic Mojiliu to the two charges against him, Wednesday.

On the first count, he was fined RM1,200 or one month’s jail for participating in an illegal racing competition at 12.30am on Aug 14 this year at the Kubota and Mega Jaya roundabouts, here.

The offence under Section 81(3) of the Road Transport Act 1987 provides for a fine of up to RM2,000 or imprisonment of up to six months, or both, on conviction.

On the second count, Samsir was fined RM500 or five days’ jail for riding the motorcycle without a licence on the same day and place.

The court heard that Samsir was arrested during Op Samseng Jalanan.

Samsir had rode the motorcycle at high speed from Megah Jaya roundabout to Kubota roundabout and made a U-turn towards Megah Jaya roundabout at high speed as well while resting head on the motorcycle’s handle.

Police followed Samsir to the traffic light in Taman Megah Jaya and investigation found that Samsir and his friends were taking part in the illegal motorcycle racing competition.

After paying the fine or serving the jail sentence, Samsir was ordered referred to the Immigration Department.

Traffic Prosecuting Officer ASP Joan Lee appeared for the prosecution.

In another case, two men were jailed and fined for drink-driving, respectively.

Chung Yin Vun, 45, was jailed five days and fined RM10,000 or three months’ jail for driving while under the influence of alcohol along Jalan Perdana, here at 12.05am on Sept 23, this year.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Sarhazmie Sarail, 37, was jailed two days and fined RM10,000 or spend two months in prison for drink-driving at the Komersil Central Kubota area, here at 12.55am on Sept 23. The court also ordered their driving licences to be suspended for two years.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nidzam Ahmad prosecuted.
