Kota Kinabalu: The 2022 Borneo Craft Festival (FKB) at 1Borneo Hypermall, here, is targeting a sales value of RM400,000, said Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation Director-General ‘Ainu Sham Ramli.Ainu said the 18-day festival that involves 58 craft-preneurs, aims to provide an opportunity to the Borneo craft community to market their products directly to buyers.ADVERTISEMENT
The festival also targets an attendance of about 30,000 visitors.
“I hope that this target will be successfully achieved to help entrepreneurs generate income aside from strengthening the national economy during the endemic phase,” she said when officiating the festival, here, Friday.
FKB for short is an annual programme organised by Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation which has been held for the third time since it was first held in 2018.
“This festival is the first physical promotion in Sabah after going through the pandemic phase.ADVERTISEMENT
“In line with the government’s aspirations in reviving the national economy, it is hoped that the initiative of organising this festival will provide relief to entrepreneurs and the craft community as they can return to marketing craft products directly to consumers and subsequently provide them with income.
“For information, the organisation of FKB in 2018 held at Lintasan Deasoka and 2019 at Suria Sabah Shopping Centre managed to generate a sales value of RM1.12 million.

“This is through the participation of 199 craft entrepreneurs from Sabah and Sarawak with the number of visitors exceeding 30,000 people.”
‘Ainu also said craft sales in the country, as of August, recorded an achievement of 93.2 per cent which is RM186.4 million of the targeted RM200 million.
“The number of craft communities also increased to 26,054 compared to 25,592 in 2021.
Looking at this achievement, I am confident that the KPI (key performance index) target set until December, this year, can be achieved,” she said. FKB runs from Sept 23-Oct 10, from 10am-10pm.
