Man jailed 18 months over stolen Toyota Vios
Jasmin, who was arrested by police on Nov 20 following tip-off, led the police to Angkasa Apartment parking lot where the stolen vehicle was kept and it was found that the plate number had also been changed.
Kota Kinabalu: A 29-year-old man was jailed one year and six months, Monday, for hiding and removing a stolen Toyota Vios car.

Jasmin Suaib, unemployed, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to committing the offence on the vehicle belonging to one Fam Yap Ngo at 9.50am on Sept 19 this year at a car park in Angkasa Apartment, Jalan Tuaran Bypass.

The offence, under Section 414 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of between six months and seven years and liability of a fine on conviction.

The court was informed by the prosecution that the car was reported stolen from Fam’s house at Inanam Villa, Jalan Bantayan, Inanam on Sept 18.

Jasmin, who was arrested by police on Nov 20 following tip-off, led the police to Angkasa Apartment parking lot where the stolen vehicle was kept and it was found that the plate number had also been changed.

Fam later identified the Toyota Vios as hers, said the prosecution.

Unrepresented, Jasmin requested a lenient sentence and wanted to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest while the prosecution applied for a deterrent sentence.

The court ordered Jasmin to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.

In another case, a 23-year-old man was jailed three months for trespassing into a shopping complex.

Sazwie Haiqal Pati admitted before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to trespassing into zone 10 of the ITCC Penampang at 2.45pm on July 19, this year.

The court was informed by the prosecution that Sazwie was found by the security guard inside the switch gear room, which was a restricted area.

Sazwie was charged under Section 447 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to six months or fine of up to RM3,000, or both, on conviction.

He was ordered to serve the sentence from Monday.
