JAKARTA: Youth and Sports Minister Zainudin Amali has said that he will discuss the issuance of the crowd permit for the 2022–2023 Indonesian League 1 with the National Police chief so that the competition can resume.

“I will discuss with the National Police chief (General Listyo Sigit Prabowo) since the National Police is the one that has the authority to issue crowd permits,” Amali informed after a meeting with the competition organizer PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) at the ministry’s building on Friday.

The minister further said that he will bring up the takeaways of his meeting with the LIB when he meets the National Police chief.

One of them is regarding the continuation of the leagues – Leagues 1, 2, and 3 – for the sake of the Indonesian national team’s interests.

The prevailing sentiment is that the competition must go on so that the best national players can continue to hone their skills. Indonesia is scheduled to participate in several big tournaments, such as the 2022 AFF Cup, the 2023 Asian Cup, the 2023 U-20 Asian Cup, and the 2023 U-20 World Cup.

“The government truly understands what LIB voiced. The coach of the Indonesian national team, Shin Tae-yong, wants the players to keep up their performance. We will work on so this competition can run again, of course, with fundamental changes,” he said.

Meanwhile, the president director of PT LIB Ferry Paulus stressed that his administration will still pursue the resumption of League 1, which has been halted since early October 2022 following the Kanjuruhan Stadium stampede in Malang.
