PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has urged employers to accept the home surveillance order (HSO) certificate for employees confirmed to have contracted Covid-19.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the ministry said this is because of the mandatory five-day home surveillance order for Covid-19 patients, starting from the onset of symptoms.

“This HSO certificate is legal under the Infectious Diseases Prevention and Control Act,” it said.

The ministry also “strongly encouraged” employers to allow symptomatic employees with negative Covid-19 test results to work from home.

“Those issued a digital HSO are required to take a screenshot of the screen display for the employer’s information and are advised to openly disclose their Covid-19 status.”

According to the KKMNOW portal, 28,375 active Covid-19 infections were recorded, bringing the cumulative total to 5,141,797 cases in the country as of Dec 16.

Currently, 27,689 Covid-19 patients are under home surveillance orders, while 664 cases are receiving treatment in hospitals nationwide.

At Tuesday’s press conference, health minister Dzulkefly Ahmad said the situation was still under control and there was presently no need for any movement restrictions.

However, Dzulkefly advised the public to undergo testing if they experienced symptoms and to consult doctors for antiviral treatment, if eligible.

Members of the public were recommended to wear masks in crowded places and to practise good hygiene.
