Pejuang offers to work with GRS
“It is appropriate for us to talk to them again and it is up to them. If they consider that we can add value, even if it’s small, I think that’s something we can contribute,” Mukhriz said.
Kota Kinabalu: Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) is seeking to collaborate with local Sabah parties, particularly the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), as it prepares for the coming 17th State Election.

Pejuang President Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said the party is keen to engage with local parties, citing their previous good relations as a basis for potential cooperation.

“It is appropriate for us to talk to them again and it is up to them. If they consider that we can add value, even if it’s small, I think that’s something we can contribute,” Mukhriz said after attending the Sabah Pejuang Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House, here, Saturday.

While informal discussions have taken place, the former Kedah Menteri Besar acknowledged that no formal cooperation agreements have been established between Pejuang and any Sabah-based party thus far.

“Unofficially, yes, but officially not yet. It’s with small parties, we haven’t had the chance to meet the big ones yet,” he added.

Mukhriz said Pejuang plans to adopt a more focused approach in the coming Sabah state polls, concentrating its efforts on areas where the party has strong grassroots support and can potentially make a significant impact.

“Based on our previous experience, we need to introspect and measure our capabilities. So if before we tried to field candidates in many places, this time we might focus more on areas where we have support and can add value to those particular areas,” he said.

He acknowledged the party’s limited resources and emphasised the importance of strategic deployment of resources to maximise impact.

“That way, the limited resources we have can be concentrated. We don’t need to move as a big party while we know we’re not that big,” Mukhriz added.

Also present was Sabah Pejuang Head Nicholas Sylvester.

Meanwhile, Mokhriz said his father, former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir has returned to work.

Dr Mahathir, who is 98 years old, was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) in February for treatment of an infection but later discharged.

“He is fine. He has gone back to work. He does not want to stay away from his work for very long.

“In July, he will turn 99. One might expect to consider retirement in their 90s, but even in their 60s, the thought may arise.

“Traditionally, retirement age is around 55. But his fighting spirit is still strong. He will continue at his current pace, remaining active and offering his opinions on the country’s direction and how we can best move forward,” he said.
